Interview with Markus Kreutmayr of Euroblock

Mr Kreutmayr, the Pfeifer Group recently commissioned a new waste wood recycling plant in Uelzen, which produces pallet blocks from recycled wood. What does this mean for your company and your customers?

Markus Kreutmayr: The new facility in Uelzen marks a significant milestone for us. It allows us to further optimise our closed-loop raw material cycle. This means we can now specifically recycle waste wood and integrate it into our production process. For our customers, this translates into an even more sustainable and resource-efficient production of our pressboard blocks. Additionally, we can ensure high product availability, providing our customers with greater security and reliability.

Raw material security is a key issue in the sector. How does Euroblock ensure production remains stable?

Markus Kreutmayr: Being part of the Pfeifer Group gives us a major advantage: we have our own sawmills. This makes us less dependent on external suppliers and allows us to secure a steady supply of high-quality residual sawmill wood alongside our valuable recycled wood chips. This is a significant edge over competitors who don’t operate their own sawmills and must rely entirely on the open market. As the demand for timber continues to grow, this independence is crucial for our long-term sustainability.

What sets Euroblock apart from other manufacturers in the industry?

Markus Kreutmayr: Euroblock is a German-Dutch joint venture between Presswood International and the Pfeifer Group. We are the only block supplier capable of delivering both light and dark blocks, depending on our customers’ requirements. This unique flexibility, combined with our ability to provide packaging sawn timber and pallet blocks from a single source, as well as offering combined loads, gives our customers a decisive advantage. Our high quality standards, decades of experience and innovative approach make us a trusted partner in the pallet and packaging industry.

What role does sustainability play at Euroblock?

Markus Kreutmayr: Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. We utilise 100% of our raw materials and operate a closed-loop system. With the new waste wood recycling plant in Uelzen, we’re taking this commitment even further. Moreover, we are actively preparing for increasingly stringent sustainability requirements in the future, embedding these principles across all areas of our business. Our parent companies, Pfeifer Group and Presswood International, are also working diligently to meet the requirements of the Green Deal.

What can your customers expect from Euroblock in future?

Markus Kreutmayr: We will continue to invest in our sites and production facilities to ensure the highest quality, reliable delivery and ongoing innovation. Additionally, we are placing a stronger emphasis on digitalisation and consulting to provide our customers with the best possible support.

Our goal is not just to be a supplier but a true partner for the future.
